Who was your favorite teacher and why?
I had two favorites for different reasons.
My Junior and Senior English teacher Miss Mills is the first. She wasn't my favorite while I was in her class but she became one of them after I left her class. She was very strict and assigned tons of homework including a term paper of at least fifteen pages typed perfectly without typos which was difficult before the advent of word processors and computers. If you hit the wrong key, you had to take out the paper you were typing and put in a new one and begin again.I was lucky because my aunt volunteered to type mine. She was a professional typist and I flunked typing. Every day we had to hand in an essay on a topic she gave us the day before. We had spelling tests on the etymology of words, their meaning and the correct spelling. We diagrammed sentences and learned grammar. Now, I appreciate it. That training has made my life easier, my writing clearer and my spoken English more polished.
The other teacher who gets my vote was my high school math and science teacher Mr. Lyndrup. He had a completely different style of teaching. He was laid back gave good lectures and didn't assign a lot of homework. His tests were difficult but honest. The main thing about him was he made you feel smart because he helped you understand the concepts in chemistry, physics and trigonometry. He was also the one who told me that I was smarter than my sister. That meant more to me than anything else he said to me.
