First let me say that summer is not my favorite because it gets tooooo hot here in the summer. It doesn't rain and the lawn is brown but it is still humid. And, whenever I water my plants to keep them alive until we have more temperate weather, I always get more water on me than the plants and come in the house soggy with muddy shoes.
Spring is my favorite. After the cold and snow, to look out and see tiny shoots of green poking their little heads out of the barren ground, it is a promise of rebirth. I like the storms and the rain. The days that are very warm followed immediately by cold windy ones. The fragrances that welcome me when I open the door. The scent of lilac, dianthus and honeysuckle. Of course there are downsides to spring too. Sore muscles from unaccustomed activity. Getting the weeding and planting muscles out of hibernation is like waking a grumpy bear from its winter sleep. They complain for several weeks and must be cajoled with liberal doses of Advil, Aleve, Tylenol and good old-fashioned aspirin.
Spring is also the end of Lent and the joy of Easter.
