My first child's name was selected from a book. I liked the sound of the name and its meaning. During my next pregnancy, my husband and I discussed what to name a boy or a girl. We decided we would name the boy after his grandfather and the girl after my great-grandmother. Luckily the names both started with the same letter because we had fraternal twins-a boy and a girl. During the third pregnancy, my godfather was diagnosed with cancer so we thought we would name a boy after him. Toward the latter stages of this pregnancy, I met him in a store and he told me I shouldn't name the baby after him. I asked him if it would be ok if I used his name for the middle name. He okayed that because I told him the first name would be his brother's and my father's. So our fourth child was named for his grandfather and his great uncle.
Many years passed before I became pregnant with our fifth child. I knew this child was going to be a girl. I was so certain that we didn't select a boy's name. We named her after her grandmothers. Her paternal grandmother died before her namesake was born but we were told that she would have approved especially since our little girl was born with bright red hair and she had always wanted another granddaughter with red hair. Her maternal grandmother was delighted too but she wished her name had been the first name rather than the middle name.
Now a question for you. How did you get your name?
