What are you most proud of?
My family is the short answer. I am proud of how my children have grown and matured into responsible, caring, hard working, generous and honest adults. I am proud of my grandchildren for I see the seeds of a second generation of the same. I know they have done this on their own by choosing wisely, by working, and by caring for others. There were many times that I had to leave them on their own devices because I had to work. Too often, this work took me away from home for many hours or even days. They were not perfect but their misdeeds were not great enough to get them arrested. The bad habits they chose could be substituted easily for good habits and again they did not carry them to the extreme to cause injury to themselves or others. They are now parents and are passing on these good habits to their children. Their parenting methods are different from each other but their children are all maturing and should repeat their parents good records. Hopefully, they learned something good from me and their dad and have forgotten the mistakes we made. Babies don't come with a service manual or a list of instructions. We carry what we learned from our parents, our friends parents and what we read in books written by "experts". From a combination of these, we work out our parenting style. With luck and the grace of God, our children grow up and become responsible adults. Parents are left with memories and must learn how to forgive themselves for the mistakes made by not always knowing the right thing to say or do. Even to forgive themself for leaving one of their children at church. Of course, the other children could have said something.
