We would go over to my mother's parents house for holiday celebrations and when the whole family would gather, there would be probably fifty people with a large percentage being under twelve. In the midst of this chaos, our grandfather would be sitting in his chair sound asleep. After a certain age, my dad acquired this gift and later my husband could become comatose in the midst of children screaming and adults talking and laughing. I never mastered this wonderful ability.
This story isn't about grandparents but my father-in-law. He was loading hay into the loft using a pulley with a long chain and a hook. He loaded a bale in the loft and the hook came down and hit him in the head. He stood there yelling and cussing the hook while it swung back and hit him again.
My brother-in-law was very tall and drove a beetle. He was at a toll booth and stuck his head out of the window to put the toll in the basket and started to roll up the window with a manual handle before he brought his head back in. His children told us this story with much suppressed laughter.
