This is a question that I have pondering over for over a week and still don't have a good answer. I can see my traits in my children as well as traits of their father but are these same traits coming to the grandchildren from us or from their parents. I can see me doing things the same way as my parents did but not the way my grandparents did. Side note--I only knew one set of grandparents and one great grandparent so I am missing a lot of information.
The traits that I hope were because of me would be honesty, love of learning, optimism, love of music and the arts, love of gardening, and as my youngest daughter would say--not being a jerk. So far I am very proud of my grandchildren. They are growing into responsible adults. Let us hope they will be nonjudgementable of others but learn from their experiences with others. Learn to forgive but keep a distance from people who have hurt them. Be persistent in achieving their goals but not overbearing and using others to achieve them. Be observant and have the wisdom to sort the good from the bad. Come to visit me when I am very old and can't go to visit them anymore. And, remember that there is a power greater than them to guide them if they lose their way.
